Colourful streets of Barcelona
Overview

According to legend, Barcelona was founded by Hercules himself. While this story is undoubtedly the fabrication of a somewhat fanciful bishop in the 13th century, Barcelona has ancient origins. Its history, ancient, medieval and modern, can be explored on its streets to this day. What strikes people the most about Barcelona is its pride and sometimes fierce culture. Catalonian and Spanish intermixed, creating a city that is unique. But no matter what your Barcelona dreams entail, we at Through Eternity will create the perfect custom tour for you.

The Custom Barcelona Experience

Visit the Sagrada Famiilia

Last year it was announced that the final completion date of Gaudí’s visionary church would be in 2026, one hundred years from the death of the great master. Upon completion, the Sagrada Familia’s main spire will be the tallest church in the world. There is nowhere on Earth like it, and our Best of Barcelona tour will illustrate its importance. With your expert guide, you will explore the outside and inside of the Basilica. Gaudí’s vision encompassed numerous styles, including Gothic, Art Nouveau, and Modernism, but what he created was something unmistakably new. It is a reminder of the capability of human beings for innovation and inspiration and it rightly takes its place as one of the greatest churches and pieces of art in the world.

Dive Deep Into Cultural Insights

Barcelona is a city of great sites, but also a city of great culture and fierce pride. Catalonian culture is shaped by a unique history, different from the Castilian heartland of Madrid. This is reflected in its language, its food and its traditions. This difference is not some quirk of history and it is as relevant in modern times as it was in the past. Firmly on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War and a political discourse dominated by the issue of Catalan independence, Barcelona is nothing if not politically charged. This particular story is essential to understand to really see Barcelona for all that it is and your Through Eternity guide will be there to help you navigate it.

Culture or History, You Decide!

Explore La Rambla and Try Catalan Cuisine

“The only street in the world which I wish would never end.” is how the great poet Federico García Lorca described La Rambla, the main thoroughfare of Barcelona. Usually jammed with tourists in the height of the summer, it remains a place to see to feel the vibrancy of the city. Our guides will help you to understand this while also recommending some local Catalan dishes to try during or after your visit. With Barcelona’s wonderful tapas tradition, you can try many different dishes in one sitting. I recommend Escalivada, toasted bread topped with peppers, eggplant and anchovies or maybe Bombas. Inspired by the grenades hurled during the civil war, this potato croquette is usually served with a spicy sauce. A taste explosion! (pun definitely intended).
