Tour Overview

What was Italy like before the rise of ancient Rome? Find out on our immersive virtual tour of mysterious Paestum, one of the world’s most spectacular archaeological sites far from the average tourist’s radar. Founded in the 6th century BC by sea-worshipping Greek settlers known as the Poseidonians, Paestum boasts three extraordinarily well-preserved Greek temples whose massive and beautiful forms speak hauntingly of a distant world. Join local guide and storyteller Andrea to trace the fascinating story of this remote colony, from its rise to one of southern Italy’s most important cities to decline and conquer at the hands of the newly powerful Roman Empire. We’ll be virtually wandering through the ruins and poring over ancient frescoes, mosaics and artefacts that offer a vivid window into the splendours of antiquity, including the absolutely incredible paintings adorning the Tomb of the Diver. Tour Description

Meet your guide: Andrea

Hi I’m Andrea! A native of Naples, I’ve lived in the Campania region of Italy all my life, and I have a deep love for its art, archeology, music, architecture, cuisine, natural beauty and - of course - its people. I have shared this world with many, many visitors over the years, showcasing the vast range of this wonderful place. When I was 14 years old I started working as an actor in theatres, and this plays a central role in how I communicate on my tours today -  I always try to put something theatrical into everything I do :-)

I have always been fascinated by Paestum and was SOOO happy to sign up for the Paestum Virtual Tour. I didn't realize how much there was to learn, from the ancient Greeks on. To think that Virgil wrote about this place! The best preserved temples in the world! Andrea was truly passionate about the subject and he so clearly loves this area of Italy. He is so articulate about history, about the architecture, about the culture and traditions! This is a must do for anyone who loves history, Italy, architecture and the ancient world. Through Eternity never disappoints! :)

Andrea does another wonderful tour, reminding me again of the enormous presence of the ancient Romans and Greeks in Italy. Again, we mostly visit Pompeii to see intact ruins, but Paestum, like Ostia Antica and Herculaneum is another example of ancient civilization right under our noses. I love how Andrea brings the ancients to life by showing us details of how they lived, and his history knowledge is amazing as he explains ancient Europe and how civilization evolved. Paestum is on my list to visit!
