Emily in Paris traded the Seine for the Tiber in the final two episodes of the hit show’s season 4, bringing its trademark glamour and romance to the Eternal City. While most of the filming took place in the heart of Rome’s historic center, Emily also takes a scenic detour to sun-soaked Solitano. Before loading up Google Maps, though, spoiler alert incoming: the dreamy seaside village doesn’t actually exist. But don’t worry - every other backdrop is very real! Here’s your guide to the stunning real-life Roman locations where Emily’s adventures come to life.
Hotel Eden
Emily’s first stop in Rome is the luxurious Hotel Eden, a historic gem just a short stroll from the Spanish Steps. An iconic institution since 1889, the hotel famously inspired Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. Situated in one of Rome’s most elegant neighborhoods around swanky Via Veneto, Hotel Eden is known for panoramic city views and its stunning rooftop terrace, La Terrazza, where Emily and Sylvie have breakfast.

The Acqua Paola Fountain
Marcello takes Emily on a scooter ride through the streets of Rome, ending at one of the city’s most beloved viewpoints atop the Janiculum Hill. Located right above Trastevere and just a short walk from the Tiber River, you'll find Il Fontanone - “the big fountain” - a grand fountain built between 1608 and 1610. Known for its grandiose Baroque architecture, sweeping views of the Eternal City spread out below the fountain, making it a great place for a photoshoot!
Location: Via Garibaldi, 00153 Roma RM, Italy
The Janiculum Hill (Gianicolo)
A short walk from Il Fontanone brings you to the spectacular panoramic terrace known as the Terrazza Piazza Garibaldi. It’s here that Marcello takes Emily to witness the daily firing of the Gianicolo Cannons, a tradition that takes place every day at noon just below the overlook. While not one of Rome’s historic Seven Hills, the Janiculum is actually one of the highest points in the city; stunning vistas in every direction make this a must-stop on any tour of Rome. Try to pick out iconic landmarks like the Pantheon and the Vittorio Emanuele monument far below!
Location: Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi, 00165, Roma RM, Italy
Trevi Fountain
Can you really say you’ve been to Rome if you haven’t tossed a coin into the Trevi Fountain? As one of the city’s most famous and visited landmarks, it’s rooted in romantic tradition. It’s here that Marcello explains to Emily the ritual: toss a coin over your left shoulder with your right hand. Emily opts for just one coin, securing her return to Rome, rather than the full trio - which legend says guarantees love and marriage in the Eternal City.

The Colosseum
It’s impossible to make a Rome bucket list without including the Colosseum, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Few backdrops are as dramatic as this mighty amphitheater, its golden arches blazing in the Roman sun. As they zip past the ancient monument on a Vespa, Marcello urges Emily to take it in with her own eyes, not through the lens of her phone. For a moment, the timeless monument belongs to them alone.

Da Giggetto Al Portico D’Ottavia
Emily and Marcello meet his childhood friend at the real-life Roman osteria, Da Giggetto. Located in the heart of the Jewish Ghetto, just steps from the Portico of Octavia, an ancient walkway linking two Roman temples, this beloved restaurant has been serving locals and visitors alike since 1923. A visit to Da Giggetto isn’t complete without trying Carciofi alla giudia - crispy Jewish-style artichokes that are one of the most-loved dishes of traditional Roman cuisine.

Founded in 1658, it is known for its traditional Roman menu with favorites like tonnarelli cacio e pepe and spaghetti alla carbonara. Borgo of Ostia Antica
In the final episode of Season 4, Emily heads to Marcello’s hometown of Solitano. While Solitano is fictional, the filming took place in the borgo of Ostia Antica—a picturesque medieval village that grew up beside the ruins of ancient Ostia. Centered around the imposing Castle of Julius II, the borgo was fortified in the 15th century to defend the Tiber’s mouth and remains a hidden gem today, with cobbled streets, ivy-clad walls, and atmospheric piazzas. Fans will spot the stone archway where Emily strolls, which serves as the entrance to Solitano on screen. Emily meets Marcello’s mother, Antonia, here at a fictional cafe, Cafe du Ugo, in the real-life Piazza della Rocca, while the village meal was filmed just below the Castle of Julius II
To visit, take Metro Line B to Piramide, then transfer to the Roma Lido commuter train. The journey takes about 30 minutes from central Rome.

Harry’s Bar (Porta Pinciana)
A famous American bar in Rome, Harry’s Bar, was the backdrop for Giancarlo’s commercial when Sylvie met him in Rome. In the commercial, the actress drove through Porta Pinciana, one of the few gates in the Aurelian walls to have largely maintained its original ancient appearance. The Aurelian walls are nearly 2,000 years old and were built by emperors Aurelian and Probus to surround the city of Rome.

Teatro Marcello
Often mistaken for the Colosseum, the Theater of Marcellus is an ancient open-air theater located in Rome’s Sant’Angelo neighborhood situated between the Jewish Ghetto and Tiber River. Once holding 20,000 spectators, today, the lower section of the Theater is preserved while the upper section has been converted into residential apartments. Emily and Marcello say goodnight to each other after an evening of rooftop partying with the ancient theater as their backdrop.
