Tour Itinerary
What to Expect On Your Private Tour
This is Rome at walking pace. Over roughly two and a half hours, you’ll move through the historic center with a private guide who knows the streets, fountains and monuments inside out. The emphasis is on getting to know the city: understanding where you are, discovering the stories behind the places you see and having the freedom to stop and look when something catches your attention. The route connects Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, with smaller streets and sights along the way. Because this is a private experience, your guide can adjust the conversation and pace to suit your interests.
Piazza Navona
Begin in the grandest square of Baroque Rome
Piazza Navona is a wonderful place to begin an introduction to Rome because so much of the city’s history comes together here. Its long, elegant shape follows the footprint of the ancient Stadium of Domitian, while the buildings and fountains that surround it belong largely to the Baroque transformation of the seventeenth century. At the center stands Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers, where four monumental figures represent the great rivers of the continents known to Europeans at the time. Across the piazza, Borromini’s undulating façade of Sant’Agnese in Agone provides a perfect glimpse into the theatrical architecture of the Roman Baroque.
Your guide will unpack the stories behind the piazza while giving you time simply to enjoy the space. Street life, fountains, churches and cafés all unfold around the same ancient footprint, making this a perfect first lesson in the way Rome layers one era over another.
The Spanish Steps
Discover the meeting place of artists, travelers and Romans
From Piazza Navona, continue into the streets of central Rome toward Piazza di Spagna and the sweeping staircase that climbs to Trinità dei Monti.Built between 1723 and 1726, the Spanish Steps were designed to overcome the steep slope between the piazza below and the church above, turning a difficult piece of urban geography into one of Rome’s most graceful public spaces. At the foot of the steps, Pietro Bernini’s Barcaccia takes the form of a half-sunken boat, adding another touch of theatricality to the scene.
This is also a good place to get a feel for Rome beyond its monuments. The surrounding streets have long attracted artists, writers, travelers and fashionable Romans, and the neighborhood remains one of the city’s liveliest meeting points.
The Trevi Fountain
Watch Rome's water turn into Baroque theatre
Few moments on a Rome walking tour are as satisfying as approaching the Trevi Fountain through the surrounding streets and seeing the basin open up in front of you. The fountain is the spectacular eighteenth-century endpoint of a much older story. The Aqua Virgo, an ancient aqueduct restored in the Renaissance, still supplies water to the area, connecting the practical genius of ancient Rome with the theatrical vision of the Baroque.
Your guide will help you read Nicola Salvi’s great composition, from Oceanus and his Tritons to the rocks, horses and cascading water that turn the façade of Palazzo Poli into a stage set. You’ll also hear how the fountain acquired its modern rituals and became one of the most recognizable symbols of Rome. Rather than rushing in, taking a photograph and moving on, this is your chance to understand why the Trevi looks the way it does and how centuries of Roman history are present in the monument.
The Pantheon
Stand beneath one of antiquity's great feats of architecture
End your introduction to Rome at the Pantheon, one of the ancient world’s most remarkable surviving buildings. The structure you see today was rebuilt under Hadrian in the early second century and became a church in 609, helping preserve it through the centuries. Its enormous concrete dome spans 43.3 meters and remains one of the great achievements of Roman engineering.
Inside, the oculus at the center of the dome opens directly onto the sky, while the massive walls and soaring interior reveal how Roman architects created a building that still feels astonishingly modern in its clarity. Your guide will explain the building’s ancient origins and later history, from its transformation into a Christian church to the famous people buried within, including Raphael and the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II.
On Sunday evening tours, we do not enter the Pantheon, but you’ll still visit Piazza della Rotonda and have an opportunity to appreciate the building from outside while hearing the stories that make it one of Rome’s essential landmarks.
Rome at Your Own Pace
The beauty of this tour is what happens between the landmarks. As you walk through the historic center, your guide can point out a Renaissance façade, an ancient inscription built into a wall or a small fountain you might otherwise pass without noticing.
There is no need to race through the city collecting sights. Take in the evening atmosphere, ask questions and start to recognize the geography of central Rome. By the end of the walk, the Eternal City should feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more familiar.
Join us to discover Rome on foot and start getting to know the Eternal City.

Guests Reviews
Our walking tour with maria letizia beuschi was outstanding. The casual, informative walk through churches, the streets, by the ornate fountains, statues and through the pantheon was incredible. Letizia’s broad and deep knowledge of the architecture, politics, lifestyle and the history of this ancient city was phenomenal.
Highly recommended, especially with letizia.
